March-November. Guided Tour

The Spaceport in New Mexico and Marfa in Texas represent the world’s newest must-see places. The past is well exemplified by a fort of mid 1800’s and a vast petroglyph site. White Sands is one of the spectacular natural wonders.

Day One.
Spaceport America

At 8 a.m. meet your host and travel companions in Albuquerque. Your journey takes you directly to Spaceport America, the world's first commercial site for space tourism. At the Spaceport we meet with Follow the Sun team, the only official tour operator for Spaceport America, who will lead us through the visit. Located in the desert landscape of Southern New Mexico, you are close to the Camino Real Trail, which once connected Mexico to Santa Fe. Lunch along the way. After 3-hour visit you will come back to Planet Earth with some excellent wine tasting at a nearby winery. A walk through an important historic fort, where the Buffalo Soldiers were stationed, will connect you to the mid-19th century captivating history. Overnight in Las Cruces.

Day Two. B D

You will reach Marfa, the unusual edgy art center in South-Western Texas located in the Chihuahuan Desert, in time to visit the Judd’s Foundation spaces, where the artist lived and worked. The tour of this small town’s galleries, bookstore and historic buildings that follows will allow for some interesting time discovering the jewels of Marfa.

Day Three.B L

The visit to the Chinati Foundation will take place in two shifts: the morning and the afternoon. Conceived to exhibit the work of Donald Judd, John Chamberlain and Dan Flavin, the collection was expanded to twelve other artists and occupies the former site of Fort D.A. Russell, using the barracks, artillery sheds and what was left of the deteriorated 1940s-era Army camp. You will not leave without looking at the strange phenomenon known as Marfa Lights, after a nice dinner in town.

Day Four. B
White Sands and Cloudcroft

white sands

Back in New Mexico to enjoy the world's largest gypsum dune field, White Sands National Monument. Then up into a different landscape at 9,000 ft (2.750 m.) in the Sacramento Mountains to spend the night at a historic resort, in Cloudcroft.

Day Five. B C
Cloudcroft and Three Rivers

Tour the National Solar Observatory, in Sunspot (sic!), for an insight on the relationship between the Sun and the third rock from the Sun, planet Earth, just 150 million Km (more than 93 million miles) away! Later, a walk through one of the largest petroglyph site created by Jornada Mogollon people (900-1400 C.E.) completes your journey. Return to Albuquerque for a farewell toast.
