IN THE BEGINNING THERE WAS KUAPOGI
A Unique Native Led Exploration of Santa Fe.

Experience a day-long quest highlighting the beginning of the human presence in the State's capital, Santa Fe, and the evolving American Indians' culture through centuries of changes and foreign presence.

The oldest capital of the United States has a history that goes back many centuries. Today the city serves as a recognized cultural and artistic location with an unbeatable life style and pure air. La Villa Real de la Santa Fé de San Francisco de Assís ("The Royal Town of the Holy Faith of St. Francis of Assisi") was once called Kuapogi , "place of the shell beads near the water" by its first inhabitants that found the valley a perfect place for their survival.


This day-long journey begins with a drive to the vicinity of Santa Fe. Your guide will meet you at your hotel and step on your car to lead you through a time line that spans hundreds of years. His knowledge of the history, habits, beliefs, and turmoil of his ancestors offers a poignant insight into one of the country's most interesting and intriguing history.

petroglyphAn easy walk takes you through sites where early settlements were found and to amazing designs left on rock walls by the early inhabitants. Rock Art offers a unique insight into the world of the people who lived throughout the Southwest before the arrival of the Europeans. On your way back to Santa Fe visit other pre-historic sites where large communities lived and worked the best arable land that today is the city of Santa Fe.

You arrive in time for lunch at the guide's pueblo where you will enjoy freshly-prepared Native food in a local Pueblo home. You will learn from the locals about their century old life style, the use of utensils, traditional foodsand the history of their ancestors that still inspire their daily life. After a walk through the pueblo and in the fields to hear about the ancient farming traditions, you return to Santa Fe.

The rich, diverse, and fascinating history of Spanish, Mexican and American presence unveils itself as you walk through the city's historic center and discover how the Pueblos adapted to the New World.

An outstanding dinner caps-off the day of explorations. At the home of a Native chef you will savor an incredible four-course Native meal and appreciate traditional ingredients. The food is purchased from Native American tribal nations using ancient sustainable practices or hand gathered by the chef and prepared according to ancient traditions.

 

Prices: $260 per person for a group of 3-4 people.
$220 per person for a group of 5-6 people.
$200 per person for a group of 7-8 people.
Children under 12 are half price.

Price includes: Native Pueblo guide, lunch and dinner, N.M. tax. Accommodation and transportation can be provided upon request. Please call for smaller or larger groups.

$100 deposit per person is due at booking, at least 72 hours in advance, payable by check or using the PayPal link on this website. 70% of deposit is refundable if cancellation is made by written notice 24 hours prior to tour date.
